Sorry this took so long! We were having major issues with the camera cable... anyway, here's a selection of some of the pictures we've taken this week. Various days, I think? I'm not sure, Anna did the picks. This is the outside of the Brewhouse. It's attached to the Nailshop, which is the door on the right... the Brewhouse (or laundry!) is the one on the left of the picture. It's in the middle of the whole building though, there's another forge on the left (out of shot, you can see the window though). Paraphenalia from the laundry They have to tie up the mangle so little fingers don't get trapped! Old fashioned soap! Bath tub on the wall! Dolly tub, posser and drying rack: Enjoy!

Hi folks - Is there anything behind the washboard? Looks like something might be there at the right side of the top slat, or is that just wall?

You know... I think you might be right. I'll see if I can find ten minutes to pop into the museum tomorrow to go check, otherwise it'll be Monday til we get to find out, and I'm not sure I can wait that long!
I'd go now, but... I don't think they'd really like me trespassing, breaking into museum property to get keys for buildings, then unlocking buildings in the middle of the night... yeah, I think maybe tomorrow is a better plan? lol
I'm also thinking maybe we need to be actively searching these buildings for things that look odd. What do you think, guys?

I knew you were right! From now on, I'm definitely going to be searching these buildings. Although, in our defence, I don't think we could have known to look behind the washboard for anything! Looks like another newspaper... I've no idea what went missing though - I looked back through the photos and we don't have any that show anything else behind the washboard other than the checkerboard code things. I'll have to wait and see if Simon or Sarah knows what was there before. In the meantime... er, enjoy? I don't know what to make of it. Er, again. :/

Uhm, you guys... am I the only one seeing red markings below certain letters on the page(s)?
On page one I see the letters: ymnhoosc and on page two: gsutswpsosamrlpce and then, right above the comic I see the numbers 1,2,3,4,5
but I have no idea whether those are all the marked letters or not. Is there a way any of you volunteers can take a closer look at the paper and see if you see the same letters/ what letters you see?
Do you think someone, somewhere is trying to send us a message?

We think you're right! Anna has run off down to the brewhouse to rescue the paper back again up to the office and we're going to have a look-see.
But there are definitely marked letters! I wonder what it means? Wouldn't it be cool if someone was sending us messages from the future?!

I looked! And yes... there are lots of those little red marks. I brought the paper back up to the office with me. Here's what I found:
First page: niymnheoose
Second page: gstsutiwpesosimrlpitce
I think that's all of them? But I'm not sure 100%.
And there's those numbers too; 1 2 3 4 5 just about the comics.
If it's a message, I've no idea what kind! What an odd jumble of letters.

YAY!
I do love a mystery! We'd better keep notes. This project might turn out to be of interest to future scholars. lol
Maybe it's an anagram? Though I'm not getting many useful words... moonshine, enemy, yeoman, money, onions... ?
I guess the 1 2 3 4 5 must mean something too. Hmm. I shall go ponder.

Nothing important stands out as I try to decode it as an anagram. Maybe it's substitution with 12345 being the key? I'm not good with codes, so I'll leave this to someone else. I may have a buddy who can help us out.

I think you might be right about it not being an anagram. Don't you usually get short jumbles of letters for anagrams? These are long... they could be anything! I don't know much about codes either... I think it'd be a great idea to ask your friend, if he or she knows about them! the more the merrier.

It could be a cipher of some kind, like maybe a Caesar cipher or something... I know that involves substituting the letters you see with letters a certain number of places up or down in the alphabet... I think I'll look into that, see where I end up.
ETA: I don't think it's the Caesar cipher... but I'm doing a bit of research on other ciphers.

I've heard of caeser ciphers. I was thinking, looking at the letters... there's no weird letters in there, like q or z or x or anything. Maybe it is an anagram. Though if it is, I've no idea where to start. And why not just spell your message out properly?

Because they didn't want it to be obvious, of course!
I've just been watching Sherlock, from the weekend... ciphers, hurrah! Though hopefully there won't be any chinese assassins at the end of this trail...
Still, if I was hiding a secret message in a newspaper, I'd try and make it unobvious too. Otherwise you might as well just write it at the top of the paper under the headline, right?
