This whole 2170 business, this is a weird ruse for a bunch of tourists. Though it would explain the birthday card, maybe 130 is an average age in the "future". Any of you guys believe in time travel? Well I'm willing to be persuaded about anything if you give me enough good evidence for it - everything has a logical explanation, in my opinion! Having said that, I'm not sure a kid's birthday card and a sheet of paper with codes on is proof enough for me... laser biomelters, stick man and sock puppet comics and a 200 year old Radio Times selling for a million pounds? Hey, if mouldy old copies of the RT are that valuable, I'll dig out a couple from the side of my sofa! And Bea, you can call me your associate if you like, lol.

Stop flirting Anna i'll stick the kettle on for you lot tomorrow morning but you can make your own tea for once ! I have a QR scanner on my phone if that's any help, but it seems your associates on here are a lot more pro active then myself in checking the forum and responding. Ooops.

Anna, Bea - Didn't I see you talking about Dr. Who fans? The first item in the newspaper talks about Daleks. I don't know Dr. Who; do these folks have anything to do with time travel?

As to children or young people - not that I'm aware of - I leave dealing with the younger generation to Sarah if at all possible. My staff are all very well behaved, thank you very much! That's not to say a couple of them aren't budding practical jokers, but I can't see them going to any elaborate lengths! Anna, Bea - Didn't I see you talking about Dr. Who fans? I dont doubt you one bit Sarah, I can just think of at least 5 people in my own workplace that would not hesitate to pull this kind of thing. When can we expect pics of the new part of the project?

Next building up for photography is the Brewhouse... it's a laundry as part of a Nailshop complex. It's only the one room though, so shouldn't take long! I think it's the rest of the Nailshop after that... can't remember the schedule off the top of my head though!

I'm really starting to like this toll house. I think it's so cute. I was talking to another volunteer today while they were in there and they said at one point a family of about 12 used to live in there! I can't imagine even 1 person living in there. There would be no room for all my stuff and a nice big tv! Apparently at one time too there was a setee in the living room, a piano and a dog, how?! Really interesting though, don't you think?

It might well have a logical explanation, Anna, but it's also how well you know your logic (as well as your physics, astrophysics and philosophy) that's important. History, as I always say, matters (and sometimes possibly even anti-matters). I was thinking in the car as I drove home last night about what I'd said about parallel universe theory and why time travel fascinates me, I just wish I had more time to research it as it has a fascinating history. Imagine that in 1733 an Irish Doctor of Divinity wrote a book which (albeit fictional) posed the idea that a set of state documents had been sent back in time from 1980s and gave information about the future in the time of George VI (admittedly he got the wrong monarch by 35 years as George died in 1952 when his daughter, the present Queen, came to the throne). And that parallel universe theory and multiple universe theory is still influenced by the thinking of an early 14th century Franciscan Monk from Surrey which was interpreted in the 20th century into a theory to counter the idea that because God is improveable non-believers should put the onus of proof onto believers because of a simile in which a very small teapot is rotating in space - did I mention that Bertrand Russell was one of Avoncroft's early members? What I hadn't realised is that some people even consider some verses in the Quran to indicate that parallel worlds and universes. However, fascinating as I find it, I think two 'strange' objects are not really enough evidence for me to suddenly be convinced of the possibility that somewhere there's a parallel world where Adolf Hitler has just reached the age of 121 and has handed over control of most of Europe to his great grandson having won the Second World War. By the way Sarah, I wasn't talking about the activities staff or volunteers in my comment last night. I had a certain member of the conservation team in mind (I'm sure you'll know who) - but as they've been on holiday I think they're absolved of responsibility for practical jokery. Did you get an answer about the book I asked about from the prefab?

Weird. I'm rereading, or rather, re-listening to Bertrand Russell's "History of Western Philosophy" at work. More for the history bits than the philosophy bits. It is interesting how much the Greeks got right without the use of inductive reasoning. Google "the Atomists" if you're interested. I suppose this is all OOG (and a lil' bit pompus, sorry).
On topic, time travel to the past is problematic (the grandfather paradox). Either the universe wouldn't allow it, or someone's entrance from the future to the past would create an alternative universe, or they would have to be visiting one. We are in the Doctor's territory now. Fun! Has someone been taking the Tardis out without permission after hours? If they are, could they shoot ahead to Wednesday and grab the Lotto numbers for me? Thanks!

Has someone been taking the Tardis out without permission after hours? LOL! How awesome wouldn't it be if that was actually the case

On topic, time travel to the past is problematic (the grandfather paradox). Thanks! Thanks for the reference to the Atomists, I've had a quick look but it's outside my comfort zone by a long way. The social traditions of the late tudors and early stuarts, and the development of the English Hall hous are more my areas. I'm afraid I don't understand your OOG references - is it like LOL which I understand can mean either 'laugh out loud' or 'lots of love' which I find a bit confusing. I've come acros OMG of course. The grandfather paradox could be explained away, rather than by predestination, in that the time traveller who goes back can neither be seen or do anything physical. If this were true it could explain sensations such as feeling invisible presences (ghosts) and why no-one has seen a time traveller from the future. This obviously wouldn't be true if our recent arrival of a strange newspaper and birthday card was brought from the future - it would mean someone had become able to alter physical things. If backwards time travel were true, but only in a 'witness' form, then there would be no hope of shooting either my grandfather or even Professor von Croft's who was certainly a rather pompous man!

Is it just me, or is there a puzzle piece on the floor in one of the first pictures that isn't there in the later pics when the newspaper from the future appears?

Wow, I've been AWOL for a few days, and what happens?! What's all this about newspapers from the future and time travelling? All of it sounds utterly awesome Well, looks like I need to stop disappearing for a couple of days at a time, if stuff like this is going to keep happening... Anna, I'm very much with you on how awesome it would be if the tardis kept popping off after hours, maybe Doctor Who will pop up on site yet...
