What do you mean you've never heard of Avoncroft? Shocking. Well, if you haven't, we'll give you a bit of a brief sum-up here. Avoncroft is a museum of historic buildings. It's just outside of Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, on an open air 15 acre site. They rescue buildings and other stuff that's in danger of being destroyed or just falling down because no-one loves it anymore. They've got all sorts, from a windmill to an ice house, a prefab from just after the second world war... even a TARDIS! It's a really exciting place, and we're all really exciting to be doing some volunteering there. You can find their website at www.avoncroft.org.uk and their twitter feed @avoncroftmuseum if you want to know more. Or ask us, because we love the place and know a ton about it.

Avoncroft ftw. <3
And sadly, though there is a TARDIS I've yet to see Doctor Who here. But I keep hoping, everytime I visit. *sigh*

I know - much as the TARDIS is awesome, I do keep expecting Doctor Who to pop up on site. One day, Cathy, one day...
Also, imagine how awesome it would be for business if Doctor Who just turned up one day...

Which Doctor? Mr. Baker for me (I'm a Yank, Tom Baker was the Doctor we met first) although, I dug Eccleston's tough guy doctor... geez, my nerd flag is really flying now.

Personally I'm a David Tennant girl, and not ashamed to admit it! Though Matt Smith is cool too, and I did like Tom Baker... never was much of a fan of Eccleston, I'm afraid.

Not a fan of Eccleston? For shame! He remains my favorite doctor, though the new guy is growing on me.

Eccleston for me, though I haven't seen much of Matt Smith. Quite liked Tennant but he was always a bit too comical.

mravoncroft? Do you also work for the museum?
Excellent taste in Doctors, by the way.

I do, but Sarah is away today and I only signed up last night, so she may change my status to staff. I'm not involved in the Stories and Artefacts project very much, though I know we have some new volunteers who are working on it like Anna and Cath. Btw - this whole discussion started about the Tardis - but ours has got white windows, so surely no one could confuse it with the one from Gallifrey? Can I ask whether when the banner gets changed it becomes Artefact or Artifact - that usually provokes a discussion.

Sorry Simon, didn't know you were going to come join us! I've upgraded you now. And don't destroy my illusions about the TARDIS... I like to believe that one day David Tennant will appear from it. I can take votes on Artefact vs. Artifact if you like... where does everyone weigh in?

I can take votes on Artefact vs. Artifact if you like... where does everyone weigh in? Haha, I was going to ask about that but didn't want to sound like a nitpicker. Then I discovered that it's a typical British spelling. From my point of view, being used to artifact, artefact sounds more...mysterious and intriguing. But the perfectionist in me is making me vote for artifact

I deal with enough foreign spellings (yes, English is a foreign language to americans) that I'm comfortable with either one. Personally, I prefer the look of "artefact".

Very funny, horriblesanity, but I'm a bit of a grammar/spelling nazi, so I'll have to vote for the proper 'artifact'... But I understand where people come from with the preference of 'atre'. It reminds me of the prefix 'arche' or 'arch' which reminds me of ancient, mysterious things...
Also, if we're referring to the banner, shouldn't we be talking about artifact vs. archive?

On the topic, I found this article fascinating: www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-art1.htmSo, as an English girl through and through I do think I should be coming down on the side of artefact! Leina, the project is called the Avoncroft Stories and Artefacts/Artifacts Project, Bea just had a 'moment' when she made the banner up and put Archives, though I've no clue why. Or indeed, when she's going to fix it.

Yeah, I'm going for 'artefact' too. I think it looks better, though I'm not sure why. Mysterious, perhaps, I don't know! Definitely 'artefact' though!
